Everything you need to know about Hover.com, domain names, DNS and email. Hover is the easiest way to manage your domain names and email addresses.
Today the Hover Team participated in the Inside Ride to assist children with cancer and their families. Our Team raised over $2,000 for the cause, and volunteered with time keeping, cooking, and of course riding.
As promised, here are the individual riding results:
Jon - 3.4 km Shanna - 3.45 km
Marco - 3.54 km Sarah - 3.58 km
John - 3.76 km Michael - 4.27 km
As for the totals on the day, Tucows raised over $25,000. We would really like to thank everyone who sent us letters of support and who sponsored us. 100% of the funds go to the kids.
Hi All. We are beginning to hear reports that Parava nameservers are no longer resolving. What this means is that if you were using Parava to host your domain, or for URL Forwarding, this may not be working.
We strongly recommend that you import your zone file into Hover’s DNS then update your DNS settings to use Hover’s DNS servers.
We have created a specific help article to ensure that any of these scenarios are covered: http://about.hover.com/paravanameservers
Scenario 1 - I want to use Hover for email and domain forwarding services.
Scenario 2 - I need my domain pointed at my web host provider. I don’t need Hover email.
Scenario 3 - I want to use separate email and web host providers (this scenario is also useful for any tech gurus who want to control their own DNS records / zone file configuration using Hover’s DNS services).
NOTE: Any changes to your nameservers may take 24 to 48 hours to be recognised by all corners of the Internet.
We’ve been experiencing some issues with our payment gateway provider for the last little while. Most of this has been transparent to our customers, but we have seen continuous reports from a small slice of customers that were unable to properly process their payments and renewals. We felt the best way to permanently fix this issue was to move to a more established payment gateway and eventually decided to move our business completely to Paypal.
This won’t change what payments we accept, policies, etc. For example, we don’t currently accept Paypal payments - just Visa, Mastercard and American Express for the next little while. This may change your autorenewal status however. Due to the nature of the change, we are recommending that all of our clients sign into their Hover account and click on the “Billing Info” option and ensure that your credit card data on file with us is up to date.
This is important as it lets us process your renewals in advance of the expiration of your services! If you don’t want to risk an interuption in your email, DNS or website, double-check to make sure your billing information is correct and up to date!
If you have any questions about this upgrade, please be sure to send us a comment with your feedback!
Exciting news today everyone!
Remember in the time before Hover when everyone had to post links that looked like this:
http://s153.photobucket.com/albums/s214/emeraldaslgirl08/?action=view¤t=happy_face.jpg
And then we started seeing shortcuts that looked like this:
Which were really cool, but didn’t really tell you a lot about the destination and certainly wasn’t very memorable.
And then Hover came along, and you started seeing shortcuts that looked like this:
A truly remarkable experience. All the convenience of those other URL shortening services, but attached to your very own domain. Cool, chic and useful all at the same time.
Now, we’ve taken it over the top with our brand new HoverThis! bookmarklet.
Not only have we made it incredibly easy for you to create shortcuts, but we’ve made it remarkably simple for you to share them with your friends, family and co-workers.
The new bookmarklet makes it a snap to create a shortcut on one of your domains and if you wish, post it to Twitter. Even if you don’t post it to Twitter, it will automatically be copied to your clipboard so that you can quickly and easily paste it into your email client and send it to a friend.
Here’s a screenshot of the new bookmarklet in action:
Here’s what the end result looks like after you’ve used HoverThis! and automatically posted it to Twitter:
To install HoverThis! 2.0, simply log into your Hover account, scroll down to the bottom of the page, and drag the little “Hover This!” chiclet to your browser bookmark bar. Full details for installation instructions can be found here.
Coming soon? We’ve got some great screencasts coming that will help you use these just a little bit better. More details shortly.
We are rolling out new features that will help you combat spam.
You will be able to pick how strict the spam filter rules are. This will give you a lot more control over what ends up in your Inbox and what gets sent to your Spam folder.
You can choose from one of three thresholds to set the filters to:
The higher that you set the threshold, the more likely that it will be that your real mail will get filtered into your Spam folder. The lower you set it, the more likely that some spam may end up in your Inbox folder.
How do I access this new feature?
You can ensure that friends, family and other known senders don’t get filtered by adding them to your Safe Senders List. All messages from their address will automatically go to your Inbox.
This article, http://about.hover.com/SafeSenders can help you with using the Safe Senders feature.

We would like to wish everyone a Happy Easter and Passover!
One of the problems that we had with NetIdentity was that when Customers attempted to downgrade their account(s), the system did not discontinue it, and their services actually continued without being billed for it. As a direct result, some Customers that were once with NetIdentity are finding issues connecting with POP/IMAP since the upgrade to Hover and it is their package that is causing this difficulty.
How can you tell if this has happened to you?
Check your Package - if it says “Personalized Webmail” and the renewal price is $25/year then this is affecting you. (A Personalized Webmail package has access to WebMail only - no POP/IMAP access)
“Personalized Email” and the “Family Plans” have access to POP/IMAP & Webmail
What Can You do now?
Well firstly, your email account is still working fine and you can use our WebMail right away by navigating to mail.hover.com
If WebMail is not the option for you, I’d speak with a Customer Advisor or create a ticket with “Upgrade to Personalized Email” as the title so that they can help you move into the correct package.
Here’s A Ficticious Example of What May have Happened: (Suri’s Account)
2006 - Suri purchased suri.smith.net with a Webmail Package & Premium EMail Upgrade
2007 - Suri lets the Premium Email Upgrade lapse and now pays $10 less
2009 - During the upgrade - the system reconciled the data and found that Suri is on the WebMail Plan - so removes the POP/IMAP access
